The call we get most often on the barrier side is not about price. It is someone whose traffic diversion plan came back marked up, because they showed cones where the reviewer wanted a rigid barrier, or plastic where the road speed called for concrete. By then the road occupation permit is delayed and the programme has slipped a week.

When is a traffic cone enough, and when do you need a barrier?
A cone delineates a lane. It stops nothing. That single sentence settles most of the arguments we hear.
Our heavy-duty PVC traffic cones come in 750mm and 1000mm heights with Class 2 prismatic reflective sleeves to BS EN 13422, and a weighted version at 5.5kg for wind. The line to watch is impact. Water-filled or concrete barrier for a road diversion?
Water-filled plastic suits short, low-speed diversions you set out and move by hand. Concrete suits higher speed, longer duration, and anywhere a vehicle could hit the line hard. The dividing line is speed and time, not appearance.
Our water-filled plastic barriers are a 2000mm interlocking UV-stabilised HDPE shell, 18kg to 22kg empty, that two people carry and pin together without tools, then ballast on site to up to 500kg filled. The catch is in that last figure: the plastic is not what stops a vehicle, the water is. An empty unit is high-visibility delineation, not protection, so a barrier left unfilled to save a water bowser is doing half its job.

When do you need a T-wall instead of a jersey barrier?
When the brief is protection, not traffic redirection. A jersey barrier is designed to catch and steer an errant vehicle back into its lane. A precast T-wall is a self-standing wall for force protection, blast screening, and secure compound perimeters, cast at 3m, 3.6m and 6m typical heights on a self-standing T-base with crane-lift anchors, and it weighs around 5,800kg for a standard section.
That extra height and mass is the point. A T-wall gives you an opaque, vehicle-resistant line for a laydown yard, a substation, or a checkpoint, where a jersey barrier’s 810mm would neither screen the site nor stop a determined vehicle.
