Let’s be honest: Concrete doesn’t expire. A Jersey Barrier made 5 years ago is just as strong as one made today (often stronger). This creates a thriving market for “Refurbished” or “Second-Hand” barriers in the UAE.
But is it safe to buy used? The answer is: It depends on where you put them.
The “Green Zone”: Site Perimeters & Hoarding
If you are using barriers to:
- Block a dirt road.
- Hold up a temporary fence (hoarding).
- Protect a storage yard.
Yes, buy Refurbished. It makes zero sense to pay full price for brand new, shiny painted concrete just to put a fence on top of it.
- Savings: You can save 30-40% compared to new.
- Condition: They will have chips, scratches, and faded paint.
- Our Service: We steam clean them and give them a fresh coat of yellow/black paint. They look 90% new.
The “Red Zone”: Highways & RTA Roads
If you are using barriers to:
- Separate live traffic (diversions).
- Protect pedestrians on a main road.
- Any project with an RTA Consultant.
Do NOT buy Refurbished.
- The Risk: RTA inspectors require a “fresh” Mill Certificate and Compressive Strength Report for the specific batch on the road. You cannot generate a new strength report for a 5-year-old barrier.
- The Look: Refurbished barriers often have minor spalling (chips). On a highway, this is a safety hazard.
- The Rejection: If you install used barriers on Sheikh Zayed Road, you will be ordered to remove them immediately.
